Microchipping
Our pets are loyal and irreplaceable members of the family. It may be difficult to imagine a scenario where they are suddenly gone from our lives but unfortunately, this is an all-too-common event. At Pine Valley Animal Hospital we provide the latest technology in microchipping to assist in locating and bringing your pet safely home again.
As a responsible pet owner, Microchipping is an easy and safe thing to do. A quick trip to our office will give you the peace of mind that your pet is safe.
What to Know about microchipping
What is a Microchip and How Does it Work?
A microchip implant is an identifying integrated circuit, no larger than a grain of rice, placed under the skin. Once implanted it will remain for the entirety of your pet’s life. A microchip uses passive radio frequency and requires no power. With a quick wave of a RFID scanner, the vital identification information on the chip will be relayed to a veterinarian allowing you and your pet to reunite.
Why Should I Microchip My Pet?
The American Humane Association estimates that over 10 million dogs and cats are lost or stolen in the US each year. The devastating truth is that only 15 percent of dogs and 2 percent of cats that end up in shelters are reunited with their owners. The first line of defense for keeping your pet safe is the traditional identification tag. However, tags can break, or they can be removed by a thief. Microchips are the only form of permanent identification that cannot be removed or compromised in any way.
Microchipping will not hurt your pet!
Microchipping is a simple procedure, and the pain is comparable to having blood drawn. The needle required may cause a pinch, but only for a moment. The injection site is typically under the loose skin of the shoulder blades and no local or general anesthetic is required. The microchipping procedure can also be done while your pet is asleep, being spayed/neutered or having their teeth cleaned.
Your personal information is secure.
A microchip does not store your personal information. The chip provides a unique identification number once scanned. That number is called into the pet microchip lookup and recovery service, and you will be contacted by that service using the contact information you have registered on file. Your personal information is never at risk.
There is no higher praise we can receive than the testimonials of our clients and friends, both the four-legged and two-legged kind.
