Dr. Kenneth E. Layton graduated with honors from Louisiana State University in 1996 where he was a graduate inductee of Phi Zeta - the honor society of veterinary medicine. Prior to enrolling in LSU, Dr. Layton served as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1985 to 1989 before receiving an Honorable Discharge. Ken's been affiliated with Pine Valley since 2002. Ken started working with Pine Valley in 2002 then purchased the practice in 2008.
Ken loves the outdoors, whether on the water fishing , riding his BMW touring bike , or gardening,. although ,he will tell you that his job is just to dig holes for the plants that Jeannie (PVAH's Practice manager) keeps buying! Ken and Jeannie share their home with 4 cats and one dog, Jaden who you see at the office.Ken is the proud Dad of Jacob and stepchildren Micaela and Christopher.
A longtime Wilmington resident, Jeannie first moved to Pine Valley in 1974 with her family. She graduated from UNCW in 1979 and went on to become an integral part of the family business until choosing to stay at home to raise children. She later re-entered the workforce full-time as a Financial Assistant for A G Edwards and Sons. When Dr. Layton bought the practice in 2008, naturally Jeannie became the Office Manager. Jeannie brings compassion and spark to the office; expect a warm welcome and big smile.
Jeannie's passions are family (both the two- and four-legged variety), the outdoors, and practicing yoga. When she's not spending time with her big family that includes husband Ken, son Christopher, and daughter Micaela, step-son Jacob Layton, and pets, Jaden, PiLing, Duff, Nugget,Mouse, grand-dog Hattie, grand-cat Sawyer, then she is reading,gardening , practicing yoga or her new obsession, Barre Class!
Sarah is probably a familiar face to many of you as she has worked at PVAH since 2002, She has a surgical technology degree from Miller-Motte and almost two decades of experience working in many aspects of veternary care. She is the proud mother of her son, two cats, and her dog, Pickles. In her free time she enjoys taking her dog for a walk, going on adventures with her son, as well as painting and drawing. Sarah has a remarkable ability to calm even the most anxious dogs and cats.
Dr. Jessica Tarter is originally from eastern Pennsylvania, and moved down to North Carolina to complete a degree in Zoology from North Carolina State University in 2005. She returned to NC State, and obtained her DVM degree from the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. After graduation, Dr. Tarter became an associate at a small animal private practice in Raleigh, and remained there until moving to Wilmington to begin working for Pine Valley Animal Hospital in July 2019.
In her down time, Jessica enjoys spending time with her husband, Jason, and daughter, Cora, whether on the water, staying active outside, or socializing with friends. They are excited for the arrival of their second child due in August 2019! Their house is full with 2 crazy cats, Olive and Puddy, and 2 dogs, Betty June and Cash. Jessica is looking forward to becoming a full time associate at PVAH after her maternity leave.
Lynn has been working since May of 2012 at PVAH at the front desk. Ever since she was a client almost a decade ago, Lynn wanted to work here. We are glad to have her as both a valued client and employee! Lynn also volunteers at Meals on Wheels, Animal Shelters, her childrens schools and her church. When Lynn is not here working part time, she enjoys playing Tennis, going to the beach, reading and being with her family.
Jennifer has moved around a lot in her life, mostly in California and Idaho during her younger years. She then spent 3 years in Germany and ended up in North Carolina. Her first job in the Veterinary field was in 2003 but due to moving around from state to state and living in Germany she was not able to pursue her career at that time. In 2008 she started working at Banfield in Fayetteville, NC and in 2011 she worked at Animal Urgent Care in Fayetteville, NC. In 2012 Jennifer joined our Pine Valley Animal Hospital Family and we are delighted to have her. Jennifer brings 5 years of experience in day clinic and emergency veternariy medicine along with her love of people and their animals.
Kristine, or Hobo as she has recently been named here, was born in VA Beach, VA. Kristine has a degree in surgical technology, but learned that she prefered animal medicine. Kristine worked for 10 years in Animal Emergency so nothing will faze her! She is one of those people who always has a huge smile on her face, is happy to work and never sits still! Kristine has a passion for animal behavior and modification.She has been married for 8 years and on her weekends off can be found volunteering for her husband's non profit , public archaelogy corporation. Kristine and her husband have 11 cats, 4 dogs, 5 sugar glider , and a red foot tortoise who is in love with her flock of free range chickens! ( We get some great eggs here!) In her spare time Hobo likes to do yard work, and hopes to get back in to horseback riding as she was trained through 4th level dessage.
Danielle has been a constant presence in our front office since October 2011. Previously employed at the Cat Clinic in Cary, Danielle is mother to three children and enjoys spending her spare time at the pool with her kids. Danielle is known as a stabilizing influence throughout the office.
Sarah Bayless or Baylee as she is called at PVAH is a graduate of NC State. Baylee started as an intern and upon graduation from State became a full time employee.
Baylee is our only born and bred Wilmingtonian and has plans to become a Veterinarian and we are hoping she will return back to us!
Jerrad served our country for 15 years before coming to Pine Valley Animal Hospital. When not working Jerrad loves to spend time with his two boys, dog and cat!
